COVID-19 Update

Dear Friends,

I was hoping it wouldn’t come to this.

Baker Book House just sent this e-mail to everyone on their list.

A Message to Our Customers Regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19)
We want to provide you with an update on how Baker Book House is addressing the coronavirus. We are proud to be members of your community and understand you have concerns in these turbulent times. We also recognize that now, more than ever, you may be looking to escape into a good book.

In order to continue serving you and this community safely, we have taken the following actions:

  • Temporary Store Hours: Monday – Saturday, 9 AM – 7 PM are in effect immediately.

  • We have implemented enhanced cleaning measures, including more frequent cleaning of heavily-trafficked areas such as entrances, restrooms, and customer service.

  • We have closed our cafe and all of its services.

  • We have canceled all community room rentals and all events until June 1st.

  • We have minimized shared surfaces by removing items such as the train table and seating areas.

  • We have advised all our Book Guides to follow recommended preventative measures, including frequent handwashing and remaining home if they feel ill.

  • We have suspended our used book buying.

We currently plan to remain open, however, we understand not everyone may feel comfortable visiting our store at this time. You can shop online 24/7 at BakerBookHouse.com where we are offering free shipping on all orders, or call us in-store (616-957-3110) and we will either ship it to you for free or bring your order right out to your car.

For those of you who chose to visit us in store, our Book Guides are available to make recommendations for great books and help find the perfect reads for you and your family.

We will continue to assess our procedures and keep you informed as things change.

Praying for our country and community,
Your Baker Book House Team

________

Unfortunately, this means we won’t be able to celebrate our 4th anniversary in May, nor will we get to hear from Greg – who spent an incredibly uplifting and memorable time in the Holy Land earlier this month – nor will we get to experience another of author Bob Hudson’s delightful “Merton and…” presentations in April.

It’s always better to be safe than sorry, however.

We will resume our meetings starting with Wednesday, June 10th.

Given that we have three months to wait until our next meeting, let’s read Merton’s entire 81-page book The Wisdom of the Desert. We may not get to discuss it all in June. But let’s be ready just in case.

If you have to travel, visit stores (let’s continue to support Baker Book House as much as we can!), shop for groceries, etc., please be safe. Wash your hands frequently. Keep distance from other people. And, I might add, consume lots of Vitamin C, water, and get plenty of rest. You want your immune system to be as healthy as possible.

And, above all, please pray for each other, and for the safety of others.
We’ll see you in June.
