Because of on-going restrictions regarding the opening of retail stores, we will meet virtually (via Zoom) again this month.
As we did last time, we will send out a Zoom meeting invitation around 6:30pm. So, if you’re interested in joining us, please contact Bill to let him know and give him your e-mail address.
This month, we will pick up where we left off in May by discussing as much of Merton’s book The Wisdom of the Desert as we can.
Speaking of which, if you were with us last time, you know that we more or less got through the chapters titled “Author’s Note” and “The Wisdom of the Desert” (Merton’s introduction and explanation of the subject matter). But we did not delve into the chapter “Some Sayings of the Desert Fathers” that starts on page 25. So we will either get half-way through again (thereby finishing the book in July), or we’ll finish the book this month.

That book also comes very highly regarded by long-time members of the group and/or long-time readers of Merton. I agree with them. Like The Wisdom of the Desert, the book Life and Holiness jams a ton of wisdom into its relatively few pages. (Check out the glowing reviews of it on Amazon’s site.)

Please note: Baker Book House is working very hard to transition through all of Gov. Whitmer’s requirements for opening retail stores. It’s a challenge. On top of that, all distributors and publishers and delivery personnel are stretched to the limit these days, too. So we have to make sure we’re extra patient with – and extra kind to – everyone at Baker.
My guess is we’ll get to Life and Holiness in August. But that depends on how much we discuss in The Wisdom of the Desert this Wednesday night. So it would be wise to order Life and Holiness as soon as possible just in case.
