Happy New Year!
Since it’s still not permissible to meet in person, we’ll continue to meet via Zoom. We realize it’s not the same thing, and everyone is probably quite sick of the word “virtual” (well, almost as sick as they are of the phrase “unprecedented times”), but it’s what we have to work with right now.
So, let’s make lemonade!
Our next meeting as a group will be Wednesday, January 13th, at 7pm via Zoom. E-mail us if you want to be put on the Zoom meeting invitation. Our next book to discuss is Zen and the Birds of Appetite.
Zen and the Birds of Appetite is a fairly short book (highly recommended by our group’s “elders”) that will introduce you to Japanese Zen master D.T. Suzuki, some of the basics of Zen (including emptiness, silence, and its unflinching embrace of reality), and how a Christian views Zen.
If you haven’t yet purchased a copy, please do so ASAP.
Please check with our friends at Baker Book House first. Their number is 616-957-3110 . See if they can get a copy for you quickly. If they can’t, try Amazon. But do get a copy. It’s a wonderful little book that will help shed light on some of Merton’s thoughts.
For our January 13th meeting, please read the following:
Author’s Note
The Study of Zen
New Consciousness
A Christian Looks At Zen
That’s about 58 pages. No problem, right?
Get in touch via e-mail. We’ll send you a Zoom invitation. Sit on it until the appointed time (7pm), then click the link and you’ll be part of the fun.
We’re looking forward to seeing your smiling faces again!
Many Blessings For The Coming New Year,
