The next meeting of the Grand Rapids chapter of the International Thomas Merton Society will be Wednesday, April 14th, at 7pm via Zoom.
To join, contact Bill via e-mail. Request to be included in the Zoom invitation e-mail.
For our next meeting, we will dive into Thomas Merton’s book The Ascent to Truth.
Written in 1951, this book is a return to Merton’s roots: contemplation, mysticism, St. John of the Cross, and Merton at his most blunt:
“The only thing that can save the world from complete moral collapse is a spiritual revolution” is the first line of the first chapter.
Makes you want to read on, doesn’t it?
Please read the following chapters – which constitute the first 58 pages – by April 14th:
Author’s Note
Prologue: Mysticism in a Man’s Life
1. Vision and Illusion
2. The Problem of Unbelief
3. On a Dark Night
NOTE: Our group’s fifth anniversary is May, 2021. We hope to be able to meet in person by then. But we’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, we’re diggin’ meeting via Zoom.
We look forward to seeing you on April 14th!
